Dr. Laurie Gage graduated from UC Davis in 1979. She has been the Field Specialist for Big Cats and Marine Mammals for USDA Animal Care since 2004. She also assists the National Marine Fisheries Service with the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding Response Network Program, is a lecturer at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network. Before working for USDA she was the Director of Veterinary Services for Six Flags Marine World and for The Marine Mammal Center in California. She was a consulting veterinarian for the Oregon Tiger Sanctuary, Safari World in Bangkok Thailand, Coyote Point Museum and a veterinarian for the Los Angeles Zoo. She is the editor and author of several chapters of the book “Hand- Rearing Wild and Domestic Mammals and co-editor of “Hand-Rearing Birds”. One of her passions is to help find solutions some of the problems that contribute to captive marine mammal eye problems.
